Looking for a new way to dress up plain concrete? Tired of fussing with repeating patterns? If so, it's time to try a new concrete texturing tool: Brickform Shasta Seamless Texture Skins.

Available from RAFCO Products, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., these large, reusable mats eliminate bond lines and can be used with coloring agents to quickly and easily texture and color concrete surfaces. The standard system consists of five 6-foot-diameter mats, two 24x24-inch touch-up mats, two pairs of shoes designed to let workers walk on the concrete as it sets, and one instructional videotape.

For a seamless concrete hardscape that looks as authentic as real stone, follow these steps:

  1. After placing, floating, and lightly finishing the concrete, broadcast color hardener over the surface. Though color hardener is not required, using it is a good way to enhance the effect of the release agent that must be applied to the concrete.
  2. Wearing the special shoes, lay the mats on the concrete, and make sure the edges of the mats overlap about 6 to 12 inches. When you're ready to work on the next area of flatwork, pick up the mats and move on.
  3. After waiting two to three days, pressure wash the concrete and apply a clear sealer.
