While telematics systems and the information they provide are a great advantage in monitoring machine condition and health, the data alone without interpretation and action likely isn’t enough to effectively prevent downtime. That’s why manufacturers are taking steps to bundle telematics with other elements such as diagnostic services and dealer interfaces to help equipment managers identify and stop problems before they happen.

As part of Cat® Connect technologies, Caterpillar has introduced Equipment Management Solutions (EMSolutions): a portfolio of tiered service offerings to help manage equipment assets. Customers can perform the maintenance tasks themselves or choose to have a dealer handle the details.

The program is supported by Link technology, which collects data from the fleet and presents summary information via VisionLink®. The system uses factors such as equipment location, fuel burn and utilization to help managers make informed maintenance decisions.
