After trying many makeshift solutions that never quite worked, Mulligan devised a unique little product that eliminates the problem completely. Mulligan invented the Hose-O, a low-tech solution that is as elegant as it is simple. It is a doughnut-shaped ring of lightweight, durable polyethylene foam. The Hose-O fits easily onto hoses from 2 to 4 inches in diameter.
The development of the Hose-O came about after watching the jerking hose loosen formwork or put scratches into the concrete. “We'd stop work and prop up the hose with an overturned wheelbarrow, or try to find some plywood to put under it, but it was always a scramble,” Mulligan said.
He soon realized a more permanent solution was required. He spent months developing the product. It had to be able to withstand the movement and vibration of the hose and not damage whatever it was resting on. In the end, a simple ring fit the bill.
The notched edge makes installing it around a hose quick and easy. A small bar holds the hose in place. Once the ring is on, the hose sits as much as 4 inches off the ground, and the foam won't damage what it's resting on. The product is also inexpensive, which means contractors can use several at once around sensitive areas.
Hose-O International LLC makes and stocks Hose-Os priced at $19.99 each for all hose sizes. For more information on the product, contact Hose-O at 916-871-0945.
