This year’s Readers’ Choice award was a considerable undertaking for contractor Tim Loza. This ranch project features integrally colored stamped sections and handcarved shotcrete rockwork and timbers. The 18-month-long project posed a challenge to the crew due to its location—50 miles from the nearest town and 15 miles from any main road. Concrete and shotcrete had to travel for three hours to reach the project; BASF’s Delvo stabilizer was added to ensure safe delivery. The shotcrete was hand mixed onsite and used to mimic indigenous rock structures found on the property. Colored topical liquid release was used to create an aged appearance.
