The common denominator of the six 1995 Tilt-Up Achievement Award winners is the striking architectural design of each building. The structures all demonstrate the ability of tilt-up concrete contractors to produce unique design features. Projects range from a 27,400-square-foot office headquarters erected in just a day and a half to a 1.5 million-square-foot distribution center completed in 195 working days.
Each year, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association holds this awards program to honor several tilt-up projects that show outstanding achievement in construction. The judges - a group of architects, engineers, and contractors - evaluate the one to two dozen entries based on the following criteria:
- Quality of construction
- Aesthetic appeal
- Creativity of structural and architectural design
- Efficiency of material utilization
- Suitability of the building to its environment
- Unique application or end use
Emphasis is placed on tilt-up projects that introduce new building types, advance industry technology, or provide a unique solution to a building problem.
