The customer wanted her fireplace hearth and mantle to complement the brick surrounding her fireplace. Her home is located on Bellingham Bay and she wanted to incorporate some driftwood from the beach. We inlayed pieces of her brick into the corner and front face of the hearth to appear as though the concrete broke away and exposed it. We also inlayed a lapidary rock and a piece of driftwood into the top of the hearth. We inlayed some driftwood and rocks to protrude out of the face of the mantle. We tied the hearth and mantle together by making partial columns with grooves for the mantle to set on.
