Poor construction or design increases the vulnerability of a plaza to temperature changes and precipitation. As a result, many plazas require significant repairs or replacement in 10 to 20 years, much sooner than many other components of a facility.
To effectively restore a plaza system, the project team must be familiar with the types of paving systems used (decorative concrete or brick, stone or precast-concrete pavers) and how to determine the causes of plaza deterioration. Usually, the deterioration of plazas is evident by one or more telltale signs:
- Deterioration of the setting bed
- Deterioration of the pavers
