If there is one constant in Las Vegas, it is change. In December 2008, Steve Wynn opened the doors to his newest property, the Encore Las Vegas, sister property to the Wynn Las Vegas. The Encore Las Vegas featured a porte cochere that was located directly on the Las Vegas strip. We had actually poured and installed the stamped and stained concrete for the porte cochere. Less than a year later, the porte cochere was torn out to be replaced with a new 60,000-square-foot beach club called the Encore Beach

The Penta Building Group was selected as the general contractor for the project and we were selected to apply an MMA coating over the concrete pool deck. The design called for two different colored quartz and included a decorative wave pattern that surrounds the three-tiered pool and deck. The project also includes 26 cabanas and eight two-story bungalows, each with balconies that overlook the Las Vegas strip and all had their floors coated with MMA. The total square footage of the area to be covered with MMA was 43,000 square feet.

When we started on the job with our crew of 20, only a third of the pool deck had been poured but due to the tight schedule we had to start. There were over 600 construction workers from various trades on site at the same time while we were working on the deck. Under normal conditions, a job of this size and scope would have taken four months to complete with a standard crew of 10 workers. However, due to the stringent timeline, we only had four weeks to complete it.

We were able to complete the project on time and provide the Encore Las Vegas and Penta with a beautiful pool deck and a unique destination for the hotel’s guests and visitors.
