District 1 in San Antonio, Texas is looking at precast concrete as a way of upgrading the city’s sidewalks. Using precast concrete, which will be made off-site, will ensure that the sidewalks withstand the high temperatures of the Texas climate and changes in soil. In order to prevent any inconvenience, the precast sidewalk will be done worked on underground were workers can just remove the sidewalk and put a new one in. This will prevent the closing off of sidewalks for months of repair.
The city will first look at how District 1 fairs when it uses precast concrete sidewalk and then will move onto other parts of the city beginning February of 2016.
