Minnesota and Wisconsin transportation agencies recently announced that the new St. Croix River Bridge will not be complete until late 2017. The Minnesota Star Tribune's Kevin Giles reports on the delays that have the bridge opening a year later than originally expected.
This announcement marked the first acknowledgement of a new project schedule. The agencies previously reported such issues as weather, equipment, and materials holding up construction:
Material shortages, such as concrete forms needed to make the segments for the bridge, which delayed bridge construction five months in 2014. Only two U.S. companies make the forms; the selected firm’s owner died and the company lost its lead engineer, which delayed fabrication.
