The Marriott Camelback Inn is located along the prestigious Lincoln Drive in Paradise Valley, Ariz., which is home to some of the most luxurious resorts in the southwestern United States. Progressive Concrete Works Inc., Phoenix, became involved in the hotel's renovation project when the architect, Todd Neill of Neill/Vecchia & Associates Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., came to the company in search of a unique, high-end, decorative concrete finish. Neill had several color combinations in mind, so Progressive Concrete created multiple mock-ups for him to review. The project used 1978 square feet of Lithocrete with a seeded glass and aggregate combination. The concrete was integrally colored with a Willow Green shade, and included CR Green #4 and Co Blue 5 glass, and Verde #1, Texas Royal Green #1, Flag Creek #1, and Salt & Pepper #1 aggregates.
The general contractor for the project was Graycor Construction, Homewood, Ill., which coordinated the schedules of all of the subcontractors, and provided Progressive Concrete with adequate time in the project schedule so that it did not have to rush the work. Some of the challenges involved in this project included working with the architect to choose the right finish and combination of colors, and working around the hotel guests, since the resort remained open during renovations.
