Located in Australia’s most energy-efficient building, the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency’s unique reception desk features complex curves that effortlessly wrap around a central support column.
Due to site constraints, Concrete By Design meticulously created the formwork at its Western Sydney warehouse, and shipped it to Canberra for final assembly. It had an overall footprint of about 21x20 feet, featuring a series of complex curves and rebates for storage. Concrete By Design completed the central structural column in two pours and achieved a seamless finish.
When the formwork was stripped to reveal the final reception desk, the off-form finish shimmered like glass. The polishing process further refined the surface.
