This residential fireplace was made entirely out of concrete. Concrete Arts, Hudson, Wis., hand-chiseled each individual precast block, for a total of about 100 blocks. Each block was acid stained two different colors. The base color was a walnut stain, which was accented with auburn to create dimension. The lighter colored stones are the natural concrete mix, which simulates natural limestone.
The entire fireplace was mixed from Quicktops e-Mix, which was used because it can be poured and demolded in four hours. The total project took about two weeks. A crew of one to two people worked to complete it.
