The CEO Forum was started in 1993 by The Aberdeen Group (TAG was the owner at that time of Concrete Construction). I attended the first CEO Forum in Lake Tahoe as an employee of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) and it was eye-opening. The brainchild of TAG owner Dan Anderson, the forum was for many years organized by Bruce Suprenant. The idea was, and remains, to bring together concrete construction owners so they can explore common concerns and learn to become better contractors. Today, ASCC is the sponsor and has organized another great forum. The 2012 event will be July 26–29 in Couer d’Alene, Idaho. Not just for owners, but any company leader, this is a not-to-be-missed event. Register at www.ascconline.org.

Self-Consolidating Concrete

SCC has not taken off like it might have due to cost, concerns about form pressures, and general unfamiliarity. The 5th North American Conference on the Design and Use of SCC (SCC 2013) aims to change that by presenting the newest research and success stories—they are accepting abstracts now for presentations. Plan to attend May 12–15, 2013 in Chicago. More information is available at www.intrans.iastate.edu/events/scc2013.

Sustainability Conference

The International Concrete Sustainability Conference, organized by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, will take place May 7–10, 2012, in Seattle. This event has become the single best place to learn about designing, specifying, manufacturing, testing, construction, maintenance, and research of concrete as it relates to sustainable development. This really is an exceptional conference and a place to learn a lot of new interesting things about concrete well beyond sustainability. Hall of Fame

  • Joe Nasvik
    Joe Nasvik

Our own Joe Nasvik recently was inducted into the Decorative Concrete Hall of Fame for his writing in the magazine and for organizing Artistry in Decorative Concrete at the World of Concrete. We don’t usually recognize things other publications do, but when Concrete Decor recognizes one of our editors, we take note. Nasvik joins an elite group in the Hall of Fame, including Mike Miller, Tom Ralston, Bob Harris, Jim Peterson, and Doug Bannister, to name a few.
