Using a canoe named Van Gogh, California Polytechnic State University became a two-time winner of the annual American Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Canoe Competition in San Diego, Calif. Cal Poly, which won a $5,000 scholarship and a trophy, built a canoe that weighed 178 pounds and was 19 feet, 4 inches in length.
