CEMEX, a global building materials company, recognized Conco Companies with a CEMEX Building Award for its work on the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco, California. The Salesforce Tower won first place in the Sustainable Building category for the 2018 International Edition of the CEMEX Building Awards at a ceremony on Nov. 8, in Mexico City.

Completed this year, the 1,070-foot skyscraper is now San Francisco's tallest building. 110,000 cubic yards of CEMEX ready-mix concrete were used to complete the foundation and core interior walls. The building’s mat pour was one of the largest in the city's history, requiring 18 hours to complete.

“Salesforce Tower is probably one of the most challenging projects we have done,” says Joe Sostaric, Conco’s Corporate Vice President. “CEMEX worked very hard with us. We went through multiple trials, including building mockups, so that we had a mix design to meet all the standards, not only to meet the ultimate strength of 10,000 psi, but also making sure it was placed correctly and had the correct characteristics. We’re proud of what we’ve been able to build.”

The building includes an on-site water recycling system that will be used for non-potable purposes. Recycled materials were also used wherever possible. In addition, Salesforce Tower’s design includes innovative power-saving features and the use of 100% natural air on all floors.

The CEMEX Building Award distinguishes the best in architecture and construction around the world. The award looks to develop a culture of continuous innovation in construction by encouraging creativity and the application of new concrete technologies in projects with a high sense of sustainability and social well-being.
