Hundreds of hard-hat workers from all facets of the road construction industry and its suppliers will convene on the National Mall on Wednesday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. in support of a multi-year highway bill. House Transportation & Infrastructure Ranking Member Nick Rahall (D-WV-3rd), Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), Rep. Tom Petri (R-WI-6), Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA-9), Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC-11), and Rep. John Duncan (R-TN-2). Other Congressional leaders will be in attendance.

The rally is sponsored by ten associations in the road building industry and their suppliers led by the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). Participants will include a wide variety of business groups from quarry operators and concrete and cement companies to road pavers, engineers, and equipment distributors. The Rally will be held before a back drop of heavy equipment used in road construction.

Rally supporters will advocate for a multi-year surface transportation bill for both its short and long-term benefits to the US economy. Each $1 billion in federal highway investment accompanied by the state match supports 34,779 jobs. (Source: US DOT) Highway investment has been shown to stimulate the economy more than any other fiscal policy.

In addition to NSSGA and NRMCA, sponsors of the “Rally for Roads” include American Concrete Pavement Association, American Council of Engineering Companies, American Road & Transportation Builders Association, Associated Equipment Distributors, Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, International Safety Equipment Association, National Asphalt Pavement Association and Portland Cement Association.
