Analysis by the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization projects statewide construction spending will reach $9 billion this year. This is a 7% increase from last year's totals. Initial forecasts from the organization predicted spending would remain flat.

Projects that are sustaining a high level of construction for the state include resorts that benefit the tourist industry and government spending on infrastructure projects. Steady growth continues in spite of new import tariffs producing a .8% increase in construction costs.
