Armed with an MBA but no industry experience, entrepreneur and Naval Officer Greg Hyde Hryniewicz launched Hyde Concrete in 2005. He and one employee started out doing residential concrete overlays, building the foundation for a decorative concrete company that now has more than 20 field personnel and two divisions: concrete and countertops.

“Our first few years saw growth just shy of 100% each year just before the market crashed in 2009, when we dropped 20% and stagnated for 18 months,” says Hyde. “Since 2011 we have been back on the growth train, exceeding 60% and 56% growth in 2012 and 2013, respectively.” With its ready-mix producer, Hyde delivers educational presentations to architects and engineers on possibilities with decorative concrete. Internal efforts to promote growth include a leadership development program for employees and continuously refining processes to improve operations. It has won 17 national awards for stamping, staining, graphics, and countertops, including a Concrete Surfaces 2013 Polished Concrete Award for Educational Projects (Educare).
