During Camps Construction’s first eight years in business, the concrete division existed primarily to service the company’s general contracting projects. When the recession started squeezing margins, the concrete division consistently landed other work. The division continues to grow and is projected to reach 90% of total revenues this year. “We had the ability to bond and had the safety record other general contractors and construction managers at risk were looking for,” says CEO James Camps. As of the end of 2013, the company reported a safety record of zero recordable accidents in all its years in business.

Since narrowing its focus on concrete, Camps has been cited twice by the Charlotte Business Journal as one of the area’s 50 Fastest Growing Private Companies. In 2012, the Construction Financial Management Association named James Camps Executive of the Year. The company also received an Outstanding Achievement in Construction award at Charlotte MED (Minority Economic Development) Week 2013.
