Gearing up to mark its 60th anniversary in 2017, Kent Companies has grown from a single-person company pouring the nation’s first residential concrete driveways in the 1950s to a commercial contractor with more than 350 employees. The third-generation family-owned business is a full-service, self-performing concrete subcontractor operating in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and the Carolinas. More than 80% of Kent’s work is with repeat customers. With safety as a core value, the company maintains an EMR of 0.67.

Another core value is “investing in the success of our people, customers, and communities.” Toward that end, the company launched an internship program in partnership with a leading construction management university. The 12-week program provides a structured work experience to help students apply classroom concepts to real-world construction challenges. Kent managers provide hands-on classroom instruction in formwork and other concrete concepts.
