The awards, which recognize one general contractor and one specialty contractor for placing the highest priority on safety, were presented at ASCC’s 2016 annual conference in Minneapolis.

“This is not only a reflection of Sundt’s positive safety culture at work but its commitment to protecting each and every Sundt employee,” said Sundt Concrete Division Manager Stew Grauer. “Sundt put in more than 3.5 million hours in 2015 and had just a handful of recordable incidents.”

Earlier this year, Sundt also won the Associated General Contractors of America Grand Award, which is the organization’s highest honor for Safety Excellence and is given annually to the country’s safest construction company. It is the only general contractor to have won the award twice.

Structural Preservation's award was presented to Scott Greenhaus, who also happens to be the chair of ASCC's Safety & Risk Management Council and one of Concrete Construction's Most Influential People of 2015. The judges selected his company because of nearly 2 million man hours with zero lost-time injuries and 3 years without an OSHA citation.

What really set Structural Preservation apart was its frontline safety program that outlines seven simple steps to promote and drive their safety program in the field. Through this program, they put a true emphasis on safety with field leadership that cultivates and fosters a strong safety culture on all projects. On each project, the company identifies a "site safety team." No matter the project size, each team meets once a week to discuss and resolve safety concerns, challenges, and accomplishments. The outcome is communicated to all levels of personnel on the jobsite to ensure that everyone is included and invested.
