The six Crossland brothers consider it a competitive advantage to attract smart, hardworking achievers. Crossland Construction nurtures its employees’ talents through a personal growth program called Crossland Academy, an in-house training and education effort. Employees receive training in carpentry, computers, concrete installation, crane operation, LEED certification, ironworking, leadership, safety, and other areas. The company works closely with colleges to provide opportunities, such as an internship program. More than 450 students have received on-the-job experience the past five years. The Crosslands believe education is the key to the future, and they have continued to invest in employee development when most firms have cut back.
