Most general contracts and subcontracts detail the exact change order procedures required. The contract tells you what is required to get the change order approved, who is authorized to sign, the time period allowed for documentation, and how to get paid. When you don’t follow these procedures, you take a huge risk when moving forward. The slogan NNNN (or No Notice No Nothing!) reminds you that without proper notice for extra work, you get paid nothing! Document change orders, in writing with reasonable costs and with prior notice to the occurrence of the work to ensure payment.

The seminar Construction Field & Project Management Systems That Work! was presented by George Hedley at World of Concrete 2012.
