Kenneth Eyre’s never worked for a public agency. However, the Temple University civil engineering technology graduate’s spent 38 years helping them provide better service.

Most recently, that’s meant leading a team of Greeley and Hansen consultants on a project for a 406-square-mile Virginia county operating under notoriously stringent Chesapeake Bay total maximum daily load (TMDL) requirements for municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s). Their efforts are focused on improving Fairfax County Stormwater Maintenance Division practices related to conveyance infrastructure.

Make elected officials aware of the need for enhanced infrastructure.

So far, they’ve developed databases to be used for inspections, eliminated a CCTV inspections backlog, and inspected private systems that connect to the county’s drainage network.

Eyre believes his duty is to make sure public agencies don’t postpone important maintenance.

“If we show tangible results and condition assessments and develop plans that match their funding, they can turn around and coach their constituents,” he says.
