CDM recently won three contract extensions for work with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), including the Regional Connector, West Side Extension, and East Side Extension Phase 2 rail projects.
CDM completed alternatives analyses and feasibility studies for the rail projects as well as for the Crenshaw and Harbor Subdivision transit corridor studies. The initial project contracts comprise four phases of work with several add-on options built in. CDM competed and successfully bid the contract extensions for the Regional Connector, West Side Extension, and East Side Extension Phase 2 projects.
Under the new contracts, CDM will conduct draft environmental services over the next 2 to 3 years to determine the specific environmental impacts of construction and operation of the rail extension projects and establish necessary mitigation solutions. This will be followed by preliminary and conceptual engineering services, where CDM will determine the exact layout of the rails and stations, enabling Metro to secure federal funding.
The total contract extensions are worth more than $13 million, with the Regional Connector valued at nearly $10 million; West Side Extension at $500,000; and East Side Extension Phase 2 at $2.9 million. These rail projects are all part of Metro's overall transportation plan for the next generation of transit in Los Angeles County aimed at reducing congestion and easing transportation services to commuters and tourists.
