Originally designed for structural steel, a Skokie office building was constructed of reinforced concrete. Crane Construction Company advised that reinforced concrete would be the better solution because of speed of construction and economy. Both owner and architect also preferred reinforced concrete because of the superior soundproof ratings achieved by a heavier deck structure and the impression of strength and fire protection that the public associates with solid concrete.
