When Elizabeth Gibson plucked a painting from a New York garbage pile four years ago, she thought she had just rescued a pretty picture from destruction. After returning the art—which turned out to be a stolen masterpiece by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo—to its rightful owners, she received a $15,000 reward. The painting is expected to fetch up to $1 million at a Sotheby's auction.

Plenty of laughs, in the case of one street in the Dutch town of Breda. After too many people snickered at a new cul de sac named after St. Fiacrius (because it sounded too much like the name of a famous little blue pill taken to enhance male performance), city planners changed the name to Hofhage.
