In 2013 the American Public Works Association (APWA) added a category -- Small Cities/Rural Communities – to its annual Projects of the Year Award.

As the name implies, the new category is for agencies from cities and counties with a population of 75,000 or less. It was established to promote excellence in creativity, ingenuity, and efficiency in project delivery.

This year, five Environment, Historical Restoration/Preservation, Structure, and Transportation projects were recognized.

APWA’s annual Project of the Year awards recognize the cooperative achievements of managing agency, contractor, and consultant. APWA is a nonprofit, international organization that serves 28,500 members in 63 chapters in North America.
