Regarding concrete grain elevators (Feb., p. 12), please refer to http://ah.bfn.org//h/elev/hist/e/index.html. In the second section from the bottom is a paragraph indicating that in 1906 “the first concrete elevator [was] erected on the Buffalo waterfront and was the first anywhere to be constructed by continuously pouring concrete into slip forms.” These structures along the waterfront are visible with every trip into the city along Route 5.
I have lived in the area all my life and knew of the grain elevators, but not the extensive history until looking on the Internet. It might make an interesting article.
