Gordon Gates, a member of Gates & Sons Inc., Denver, for more than 60 years, passed away Dec. 20, 2009, at the age of 86. Gates spent the early years of his career concentrating on his father's twisted wire tie invention. He was instrumental in the development of a number of systems that addressed column forming, safe elevator shaft forming, stadium seating and stairs, gang forming, and more. A featured speaker at World of Concrete, Gates focused on products that helped the contractor "work smarter, not harder." His impact was made not only on his company but on the industry as a whole.
