The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) identified global buildings material company CEMEX USA's Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels, Texas, and FEC Quarry in Miami, Fla., as two of the top crushed stone production operations in the U.S. The Balcones Quarry came in first and the FEC Quarry ranked third.
“Aggregates are an integral part of the construction process and betterment of our communities,” says CEMEX USA President, Ignacio Madridejos. “CEMEX is proud to provide these much-needed building blocks to create new state-of-the-art buildings as well as being a trusted source to advance the growth of the nation’s infrastructure.”
Balcones Quarry processes more than 10 million tons of limestone annually for construction projects across Texas. The quarry was awarded the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) Gold Environmental Excellence Award in 2014 and the Excellence in Community Relations Award in 2015.
FEC Quarry provides critical aggregates for new buildings and infrastructure projects across Florida. The quarry processes more than 8 million tons of crushed stone annually, produces seven different nominal sizes of aggregate, and five different types of manufactured screenings, its link to rail lines enabling quick product distribution. The facility received the NSSGA Environmental Excellence Gold Award in 2017, and earned the 2018 NSSGA Platinum Award for Community Relations.
