Century Concrete celebrated the grand opening of its new ready mix batch plant facility at 8901 Woodend Road, in Edwardsville, Kansas, on Monday, Nov. 9. Century Concrete is a subsidiary of Ash Grove Cement Company.

“Century, along with its business partners who helped build this new facility, hosted a ribbon cutting and lunch celebration that highlighted the investment the company continues to make in Kansas and the greater Kansas City area,” said Rob Tucker, general manager of its ready mix concrete operations in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

“Century is one of the top concrete producers in the Kansas City metropolitan area,” Tucker continued. “When fully staffed, our Edwardsville facility will employ 35 including a full-time plant manager, drivers, batch personnel, loaders/laborers and quality control personnel. The completed facility also will result in more efficient deliveries for our customers.”

Tucker said the economic influence of the facility went beyond the full-time staff and includes the local purchases of raw materials – cement from Ash Grove in Chanute, Kansas, sand from Holliday Sand & Gravel plants in Bonner Springs and Shawnee, limestone from Johnson County Aggregates in Olathe and granite locally. The economic effect of every construction materials job is a multiplier of 10 which translates to about 350 jobs affected by this plant, mostly local jobs involving raw materials.

The ready mix batch plant is fully automated and equipped with the latest computer technology and safety features. It also has a state-of-the-art dust collecting system and water management controls, consistent with Ash Grove’s leadership in environmental stewardship and commitment to being a good neighbor.
