CHICAGO - April 4, 2013 - The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) named Lafarge North America employee Douglas Davidson the 2012 NSSGA Grassroots Advocate of the Year at its annual convention. NSSGA recognized Davidson, the dock operations manager for the Lafarge U.S. Great Lakes Market, for his outreach on behalf of the aggregates industry.

“Lafarge is proud of the outreach that Mr. Davidson has done, especially his work with local elected officials to bring awareness to our industry, “said vice president of environment and public affairs at Lafarge U.S., Craig Campbell. “Protecting the health of the aggregates industry is not just important for the companies that are a part of it, but for the many people around the country that are employed by it and their communities.”

After participating in a grassroots training provided by Lafarge, Davidson participated in local events and arranged a constituent meeting at the dock in order to connect local elected officials with the issues confronted by the aggregates industry. This is the second year in a row that a Lafarge employee has won the award.

Recipients of the award are members of NSSGA’s Aggregates in Action (A2), which aims to help members enhance their grassroots efforts. Grassroots outreach is crucial for the aggregates industry, as it often faces legislative actions that can affect operations and the strength of the industry as a whole.

From aggregates to cement to concrete, safe-guarding the vigor of these sectors enables Lafarge to use all of these tools to create sustainable communities for our future. For Lafarge, all building materials play an important and equal role in helping provide comprehensive building solutions to customers.
