General Chipping is pleased to announce Oscar Zamarron has joined the team as safety consultant. In his new role, Zamarron will aid in developing and implementing an accident prevention program that focuses on training, compliance and strategic measures for the road ahead.
Zamarron brings 17 years of experience to General Chipping. His past work includes safety leadership and training positions for companies in industries such as construction, equipment rental, mining and manufacturing.
Safety should come first and foremost in any work environment, Zamarron said, but especially in fields like concrete chipping, where missteps could place individuals in life-or-death situations.
“Even seemingly small issues like warm weather conditions or forgotten hard hats can result in life-altering consequences,” he said. “My job is to arm teams with the knowledge and support they need to play it safe in every situation while still performing their jobs to the best of their ability.”
Zamarron earned his associate degree in applied science from Texas State Technical College, and obtained certification as a safety and health official for both the construction industry and general industry from The University of Texas at Arlington. He maintains certification across a range of specialties, including but not limited to confined space and trench rescue, first aid and CPR, industrial hygiene and electrical standards.
Alejandro Medellin, one of General Chipping’s managing members, said he looks forward to having Zamarron working with his team. Although the company already adhered to strict standards and procedures, he acknowledged that even the best companies have room for improvement.
"Our team members understand safe practices and undergo regular training, but it’s easy for certain precautions to get lost during busy day-to-day practices,” Medellin explained. “Oscar lives this every day. He’s the expert. We are glad to have him on board.”
