The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has hired Edith Smith as its new Manager of Codes and Standards. Smith has a structural design and construction engineering technology degree from Pennsylvania State University and is a professional engineer in nine states. Before joining PCI, Smith was senior design engineer with Gage Brothers, a precast concrete producer in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Her main focus will be to develop and implement the PCI design specification to be adopted by the International Building Code in accordance with PCI’s Strategic Plan. She will also review technical papers and committee work.
Smith has been actively involved in the following PCI committees: Parking Structures (secretary), Connection Details, Seismic, LPCI, and Membership. She's been a driving force behind the Women in PCI events and participated in the inaugural class of Leadership PCI in 2005.
“We look forward to having Edith as a valuable member of the PCI team,” says PCI Vice President of Technical Services, Roger Becker. “Her experience in designing prestressed concrete is ideal for the important work of codes and standards.”
