Fulfilling the needs of contractors is paramount at Sierra Ready Mix, which has been locally owned and operated since 1994. Before starting Sierra Ready Mix, the owner was a concrete contractor. The company focuses on consistent concrete by shipping the same quality of raw materials to each of its two plants.
The producer has a broad customer base that includes masons, residential slab contractors, and commercial tilt-up contractors. Sierra offers products for mid-rise construction and state and federal projects, and its batch plants and mixer trucks are NRMCA-certified.
Scott Leavitt, sales supervisor, says the service offered at Sierra Ready Mix is unparalleled. “I would match our mixer drivers against any others. All of our drivers go through a rigorous hiring process,” he says. “It is not uncommon to see our drivers push a wheel barrow or pick up a shovel and help.”
Sierra has been keeping up to date on technology to compete with the competition. The company uses telematics for the mixers and installs the latest batching software in its plants.
In addition to Sierra’s batch plants, the producer owns a quarry that produces a natural, washed concrete sand.
The recession hit the construction industry hard, especially in Vegas, but Sierra Ready Mix was resilient. “It was a time of serious attrition for most. In the past five years we have not only recovered, but are stronger than before,” says Leavitt. “We have invested back in the company and are optimistic about the future.”
The producer also is committed to giving back to the local community; Sierra helps support the Blind Center of Nevada. “To help promote the center, we have their logo on the drums of our mixer trucks, we do the maintenance on their fleet, and as a company we also share resources with the center to help them help the local blind community in several ways,” says Leavitt.
Sierra focuses on producing the highest quality concrete and setting the benchmark for service. “The best people serving the best customers in Las Vegas,” says Leavitt.
