In a series of simulations of single-family houses, tests show that thermal mass walls out perform wood-framed walls whether insulation is found on the outside or inside.
“Results show that the house with CMU walls with insulation on the interior uses 3 to 23% less HVAC energy than the house with wood-framed walls.”
