Contractors, masons, cement suppliers, and ready-mixed producers gathered in Las Vegas in mid-January to explore the industry’s latest products and services. The show provides a mix of fun, challenging, and educational events where attendees can improve and demonstrate their skills. It’s not too early to start thinking about next year’s show: Feb. 3 through 7, 2020, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Mario Alves (center) of A&M Masonry in Hamilton, Ontario, won the Bricklayer 500 event sponsored by Spec Mix with a brick count of 760, earning the title of “World’s Best Bricklayer.” Darian Douthit (second from right) with Providence Masonry in Fairland, Okla., won Top Craftsman and Charlie Cheatham (far right) of Cleveland-based United Masonry won Toughest Tender.

Concrete Cares, a nonprofit organization that helps families dealing with the costs of childhood cancer, displayed the companies that support the effort “One Yard at a Time.”

Jeremy Laros of Joule-Crete Research & Construction displayed rechargeable batteries at the Start-Up Zone sponsored by the American Concrete Institute’s Strategic Development Council.

For 16 years, John Deere has been giving World of Concrete attendees the chance to test their skills on company machines. The competition gives attendees a set amount of time to score points. Watch as this participant tries his hand at the excavator!
