Ready-mix concrete production in the U.S. plunged 27% in 2009, from 351.7 million yards in 2008 to 257.5 million yards last year, according to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

It was the least production since 241.8 million yards in 1993, and was 44% less than the record 458.3 million yards in 2005.

The states that produced the most ready-mixed concrete last year were Texas (35.2 million yards); California (24 million); Florida (13.6 million); Illinois (9.5 million); and New York (8.9 million).
