Surfacing Solutions Inc., Temecula, Calif., polished and stained 3500 sq. ft. of concrete floors for a new night club at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, Ariz. The architect specified a decorative surface with rock and glass seeded into the concrete floor. A major challenge was polishing three handicap access ramps. The ramp grinding had to be done by hand because of the weight of the polishing machines. All contractors successfully met the opening night deadline.

Publicizing polished concrete to the world will be a part of the annual International Concrete Polishing and Staining Conference (ICPSC), which takes place Sept. 29–Oct. 2 in Duluth, Ga., just north of Atlanta. Concrete Surfaces is the official publication of the conference.

The event features more than 10,000 square feet of displays by manufacturers, hands-on equipment demonstrations, and networking opportunities. Educational seminars are geared toward both beginner and advanced attendees.

For the first time, this year’s conference will include the Concrete Polishing Global Leadership Summit. The purpose of the summit is to design, package, and implement a strategic campaign to effectively, consistently, and universally present polished concrete as the flooring of choice. Telling the concrete polishing story to the world will be one of the summit’s goals.

Also new this year, the World of Concrete (WOC) Education Program will endorse a seminar with the ICPSC conference program. Students who attend the WOC-endorsed seminar will receive one credit toward WOC Master Certificate requirements that must be completed at World of Concrete 2012.
