During the World of Concrete, Concrete Construction editor-in-chief Bill Palmer heard a question at an editorial session about the durability of pervious concrete in freeze/thaw environments. “The response, by someone who purportedly knew something about pervious,” wrote Palmer, “was not in my opinion nearly strong enough.” Let’s state it clearly: Good pervious concrete can easily withstand any freeze/thaw environment.”

In response to the post, one reader wrote:

Concrete can absolutely be used successfully in cold weather climates! There are a great many resources related to pervious concrete, including maintenance, mix design, performance, and other related topics. Many of these resources are available for free from the Ready Mixed Concrete Research & Education Foundation.
