The BMP approach to designing a stormwater system is to attack the problem at its source. Once the volume of the runoff and water borne items are allowed to accumulate beyond the tributaries, the amount of energy necessary to separate them becomes a problem in itself. Therefore stopping foreign elements at the point of entry becomes the most effective solution.
