The city also bought a control panel and connected the valve’s new instrumentation to the SCADA network via the Ethernet. Singer distributor Pipestone Equipment installed and tested the panel’s control sequences and its control of the valve. When the retrofit went live, city operators tested all the SCADA controls to ensure the automation worked properly.
The City of Sheridan Public Works Department provides drinking water to more than 20,000 people throughout Sheridan County, Wyo.
The valve also was equipped with an electronic position indicator and differential pressure transmitter to monitor flow through the valve.
“The support we got with field programming coordination and follow-ups was above and beyond our expectations and solidified our confidence in the system,” says Marcus Weaver, the integrator and electrical technician contractor for the city.
The Singer Model 106 PR hydraulically control valve senses downstream pressure through a connection at the valve outlet. Under flowing conditions, the pilot reacts to small changes in pressure to control the valve position by modulating the pressure above the diaphragm. The downstream pressure is maintained virtually steady at the pilot set-point.
