Carbon monoxide poisoning might not be a huge safety issue for concrete workers, but it could happen from a generator or gas-powered equipment being used in a confined space. A new hardhat invented by researchers at Virginia Tech University detects workers’ blood oxygen levels and then sends a warning signal using a miniature radio transmitter. This is a start to hardhats of the future that could monitor workers and their environment for a variety of dangerous conditions.
