Wacker Neuson’s sixth annual Trowel Challenge competition was once again exciting, with less than one second between the first and third place finishers’ final time. Each year this competition draws large crowds to watch more than 150 trowel operators test their ride-on trowel operating skills. The grand prize was a custom 48-inch CRT 48-35VX ride-on trowel powered by a special Vanguard Big Block V-twin engine.

The finishers with the top 10 fastest times from the preliminaries advanced to the finals and the top 10 finalists each had one run through the course. The 2014 Trowel Challenge winners are: (1st place) David Ray, Molzahn Construction, Worland, Wyo., with a winning combined time of 52.781; (2nd place) Greg Geiger, On Demand Concrete Solutions, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with a combined run time of 53.012; and (3rd place) Douglas Garber, B Concrete, Brookville, Ohio, with a combined run time of 53.092.
