Horizontal drilling for changing soil conditions
Powered by a 63-hp diesel engine, the D16x20 Series II Navigator horizontal directional drill delivers 16,000 lbs. of thrust pullback force and 2,000 ft.-lbs. of torque. For added control in varying soil conditions, the standard AutoDrill function allows the operator to set rotation, thrust, and pullback pressure. The drill then adjusts bore and pull-back speeds as it works through the bore. The machine features sliding tracks that adjust outward for improved stability in uneven terrain, and when returned to the inward position the drill has a compact footprint. Precise fingertip controls are mounted on two joysticks in the operator's station. Vermeer Manufacturing Co. www.vermeer.com.
Solar generators provide quiet, clean, free energy
These portable solar generators provide free electricity. They can power everything on a construction site, including saws, drills, vacuums, lights, and refrigeration. They can also be used for events and as backup generation during disasters. The custom generators are environmentally friendly, quiet, and do not emit any fumes. They can be used as backup to, or in place of, grid power. Spirit of the Sun Solar Systems LLC. www.sossolarsystems.com.
Truck-mounted boom pump
The S 32 X has a four-section Roll and Fold boom that reaches 105 ft. vertically with 5-in. pipeline. Its standard pump kit is a fuel-efficient 2025-5 120/80 MPS that provides 178 cu. yds./hour and 1,233 psi at 23 strokes/minute — it pumps about 13% more concrete with each stroke than competitive units, translating to 13% less wear and 13% longer boom life. Other features include Vector controls for two-way communication between the pump and operator, real-time messaging, and prominently displayed operating data. Schwing America. www.schwing.com.
Rough-terrain forklift
The STT80 Tow Forklift can tow heavy or extremely large loads efficiently and safely in rough terrain environments. Available in both two- and four-wheel drive, it has a lift capacity of 13,000 lbs. at 12-in. load center and an 8,000-lb. draw-bar pull. Other features include a Diesel-max Turbocharged 444 Tier III compliant diesel engine; power-shift transmission; and a slider-type, no-bearing mast with ball hitch for easy engagement. Multipurpse skidsteer attachment
The Beak's crowbar fork design multiplies the breakout force of your skidsteer — and the grapple jaw holds the load in place. This eliminates the need for pallet forks, and sawing and hammering of concrete before removal. The attachment is also ideal for landscaping, recycling, waste management, demolition work, and for moving and placing large stone, pipe, and logs. Daniel Mfg. Inc. www.danielmfg.com.
Free bridge-repair software
Developed with the University of Miami's Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department, this downloadable program is designed for users of Safstrip strengthening strips. The carbon and glass fiber concrete structural rehabilitation product is attached using mechanical fasteners instead of adhesives. Strongwell Corp. www.strongwell.com.
Photo-engraved formliners
Almost any image in standard graphic format can be turned into one, or a series, of formliners for cast-in-place or pre-cast concrete. The photo-engraving process uses a computer-based method and a special CNC milling machine for transferring scanned image data into 256 gray scales and transferring the image to the elastic formliner. The resulting surface pattern can vary from fine to coarse depending on the resolution of the image. Nawkaw Corp./Reckli.www.nawkaw.com.
Horizontal directional drilling with less noise
The JT3020 Mach 1 is an extended-range, self-contained machine with 30,000 lbs. of pullback and the capacity to bore pilot holes up to 4.5 in. and backream diameters up to 12 in. The fluid pump delivers 42-viscosity drilling fluid at 50 gal./minute for greater efficiency. And the 148-hp engine automatically increases the horsepower to power through even the toughest drilling conditions — all at less than 82 dBA at the operator's ear. In the workstation, pressure gauges and tracking information is located in the operator's line of sight while looking at the tool joint. Ditch Witch. www.ditchwitch.com.
Grade control on foot or from a vehicle
By providing direct import of DWG files, DXF files, and machine control files, including tn3, gc3, and ln3, Grade Supervisor v1.0 allows construction site supervisors to analyze volumes and track real-time cut/fill daily, weekly, or at any other interval. The software supports most GPS/GNSS receivers and is compatible with Windows XP as well as Vista. A free demo CD is available. Carlson Software. www.carlsonsw.com.
