In response to the severe shortage of skilled carpenters, form manufacturer Gates & Sons Inc., Denver, has developed a new product: precut, predrilled form components that can be assembled on the jobsite by relatively unskilled workers. To ensure maximum ease of form assembly, Gates packages and ships all the components needed. The kits include laminated-veneer-lumber (LVL) framing members that are cut to exact length requirements, drilled at bolt locations, and color-coded on the ends. Gates also supplies an assembly table, or jig, with corresponding color-coded markings, thus eliminating mistakes in frame assembly.
