CEMEX USA has provided more than 1,500 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete with a strength of 5,000 pounds per square inch, to support the installation of 900 bollards aimed at enhancing the safety of pedestrians along the Las Vegas Strip.
The bollards are located in front of Las Vegas hotels like The Bellagio and The Mirage. They're intended to stop vehicles from driving onto the sidewalks and are designed to withstand the impact of vehicles the size of garbage trucks traveling at speeds up to 55 mph.
“Safety is a priority at CEMEX, and we’re proud to support projects that enhance the safety of pedestrians, especially in high-traffic areas like the Las Vegas Strip,” said Eric Wittmann, CEMEX USA Regional President—West Region. “We take safety seriously whether it is on the job site, in the community or at home. This project is designed to help locals who spend time on The Strip and those visiting from out of town.”
Over the past year, CEMEX has promoted pedestrian and bicycle safety, hosting Safer Roads Together events at various locations across the U.S. During the events, participants can sit in the cabs of CEMEX mixer trucks to learn what drivers can and cannot see while behind the wheel. They also receive information intended to help them stay safe when walking or cycling along roads. Close to 1,500 people have participated in the events.
