The view from the 220-foot-high control deck offers a fascinating panorama of the airport's myriad activities. Built by Gibbs Construction Co., New Orleans, the 207-foot-high tower welcomes all travelers coming into New Orleans International Airport. Completed in October 1993, the tower's control deck is supported by four precast concrete legs. From the bottom-most tips of the piles to the tower's top, the structure is more than 320 feet long, equivalent to a 40-story building. Although a third of that length lies unseen beneath the soft soils of the Louisiana flatlands, for decades to come the clean, simple lines of the above-ground precast tower will ensure it a prominent place among New Orleans landmarks.
